• Which stage of a listening lesson do you think is the most important?:

I think pre-listening  is the most important stage of a listening lesson. In general, pre-listening plays a role of warming-up and the main aim of this stage is to make learners focus their attention on the following while-listening stage and decrease the difficulties of the text. It is more important in its relating to and being of help to many other aspects which will be represented later.

• In your experience, how does this stage relate to problems you may have observed that your students have with listening?:

If the teacher doesn't have a careful pre-listening stage, the students will feel disinterested in the topic. They may be distracted during listening tasks and lack of confidence. With a challenging topic without pre-listening activities, students are completely passive in giving answers for each task.

• What are some concrete examples that support your reasons for your choice?:

When you want students to do a listening task about "Sources of Energy". Actually, it is a demanding topic and requires background knowledge. Therefore, if the teachers expect students to complete the listening tasks effective, they should have a perfect pre-listening stage. They can set the context, provide new words, generate interest and make a discussion if necessary. Once learners know the context for something, they are able to predict possible content. Try giving students a choice of things that they may or may not expect to hear, and ask them to choose those they think will be mentioned.

• Which stage of a listening lesson do you think is the most important?:
