The course helps students to:

  1. Gain insights into the principles and implications of theories of language learning.
  2. Be informed about the strengths and weaknesses of the various techniques used in teaching language aspects and skills
  3. Develop essential 21st century skills.

On completion of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Understand and organize learning by using a variety of strategies and techniques to integrate English listening, speaking, reading and writing for authentic purposes and to address diverse language learners. (ETCF - Competency 2.1)

  2. Select appropriate techniques of different teaching methods for their teaching situation. (ETCF - Competency 2.2)
  3. Plan effective lessons and design assignments and activities that address content and integrate skills, and help students to learn language forms and functions. 
  4. Use and adapt required textbooks effectively for language teaching and to locate and adapt materials and resources appropriate for students’ age and language level. (ETCF – Competency 2.5)
  5. Design and use age-levelappropriate assessments to inform instruction, and to measure student progress and proficiency. (ETCF -  Competency 2.4)
